Methodology
Every studio on The Top Design Studios is scored out of 100 points across four weighted dimensions: design taste (40%), craft and portfolio (25%), specialization in digital product and UX design (20%), and team depth (15%). No agency paid to be included in this list, and no studio can pay to change its score or rank.
Design Taste
40%
Design taste measures the visual and interaction judgment shown across a studio's most recent shipped work: typography choices, color systems, motion, layout rhythm, and whether the studio's output looks distinct from generic SaaS templates. We review each studio's own site plus at least three linked case studies or portfolio pieces to score this dimension, the same way a design-award juror reviews an entry.
Craft & Portfolio
25%
Craft and portfolio measures execution quality and depth: how many real, named, verifiable client projects a studio can show, whether the work is production-shipped (not just concept renders), and whether the portfolio spans multiple industries or engagement types without dropping in quality.
Specialization
20%
Specialization measures how closely a studio's actual service mix matches digital product design and UX design, as opposed to architecture, industrial design, packaging, or branding-only work. A studio that spends most of its portfolio on logo and brand-identity systems scores lower here than one built specifically around product UX, flows, and interface design, even if the branding work itself is excellent.
Team Depth
15%
Team depth measures whether a studio has enough verified headcount and role coverage (UX research, UI design, motion, front-end) to staff concurrent engagements without a single-founder bottleneck, based on published team size, LinkedIn presence, and named team members on the studio's own site.
How scoring works in practice
Each studio receives a 0-to-maximum score on all four dimensions, based on a direct review of the studio's own site, at least three linked case studies or portfolio pieces, and, where available, the studio's Clutch.co profile. The four scores sum to a total out of 100, which determines rank order on the pillar ranking.
Every factual claim used in scoring, including team size, headquarters, pricing, and named clients, is checked against a primary source (the studio's own website or its Clutch.co profile) before publication. Where sources disagree, such as team size estimates that vary between a studio's own site and third-party aggregators, the ranking reports the range rather than picking a single unverified number.
Independence policy
No agency paid to be included in this list. The Top Design Studios does not accept payment or any other consideration in exchange for inclusion or a specific rank.
Studios are not contacted before publication and do not see their scores or written verdicts in advance. Every studio here is scored on the identical four-dimension rubric described above, and the underlying facts are checked against the same class of primary source, the studio's own site and its Clutch.co profile, without exception. Outbound links to studio websites carry no affiliate tracking, referral fee, or commercial arrangement of any kind.
Corrections are handled in public. If a studio disputes a factual detail, the entry is amended only when a primary source supports the correction, and if that correction moves a score, the revised score and the new rank order are republished rather than quietly adjusted. A studio that declines to respond does not lose points for it; the ranking is built from what a studio has already published, not from what it is willing to tell an editor.
